What does a medical assistant do?

Medical Assistants are responsible for administrative and clinical tasks in physician offices, and outpatient ambulatory settings. They work alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and other support staff to care for patients across the lifespan.

What is the job outlook for the medical assistant role?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 16 percent from 2021 to 2031, much faster than the average for all occupations.¹ In Georgia, Medical Assisting is listed as number 10 of 20 occupations with the most job growth through 2028.² This positions the medical assistant role as one of high necessity and demand, with a stable career outlook.

What will I learn in the accelerated medical assisting program?

Our program is designed to provide the student with the foundational knowledge and skills to successfully pass the NHA Certified Medical Assistant Exam. Through didactic instruction and skills lab training, the program will prepare the student to enter the workforce as a skilled and confident healthcare worker, providing quality and safe patient care. The program will focus on medical office front and back-office tasks and procedures necessary to support the care of patients under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner (physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant).

Upon graduation from the program, the student will be qualified to enter the workforce as a Medical Assistant.

How do I apply and what happens after I apply?

We strive for our application process to be quick and easy for our candidates! The first step is to complete your application via the Apply tab. If you meet the basic requirements for enrollment, you will receive an email from us which includes an Enrollment Agreement for you to sign electronically and an invoice for program costs – full payment is due before the start of class (unless a Payment Plan is in place). Once submitted, your enrollment process is complete!

How can your program be so fast?

Traditional medical assisting programs can take anywhere from 10-14 months to complete. Although this may be the best pathway for students seeking credits that can be applied for future education, at Providence Medical Academy, we believe in high-quality, hands-on education that prepares confident and competent medical assistants to enter the workforce in a faster timeframe. Whether you choose a traditional or accelerated program, the outcome is the same – you are eligible to sit for certification with the skills necessary to start your career as a medical assistant.

Do you offer an externship?

Yes, an 80-hour externship is required to graduate from the program. The externship is completed at the end of the program.

Is certification required to become a medical assistant?

There is no requirement for medical assistants to become certified. However, an increasing number of employers are looking for certified medical assistants and often show them preference when hiring.
